SOME OF OUR FAVORITES:
*If you want
directions to any of these places let us know, or ask the owners.
Pet Boarding:
Canine Cottage located on Spider Lake (next door to Lost Land)
30 minutes from the lake-house at 13353N Murphy Blvd. Gail and
Chuck did a wonderful job of watching after our two miniature Shi-Tsu’s
when we stayed at Wilson Bay Lodge. They even let us visit and play
with them during the week! Their catch phrase is “The Non-People
Resort - We Pamper Your Pets.” Give them a call, their rates are
extremely reasonable!

Fishing:
Boat, Boat
Motor, Pontoon, Canoe, and Kayak Rental -

Wilson Bay Lodge
- You won’t find nicer people in the Northwood’s than Jim & Judy
Tomasik! We stayed at their resort for six years before we bought
our place. Jim’s motors and pontoons are like new, his prices are
extremely reasonable, and he’s 5-minutes away. One word of caution-
reserve your rental early to make sure you’ll have it during your
stay.

Bait,
Tackle, Boat Motor Gas:
Happy Hooker Bait
& Tackle - As their catch phrase implies is the
closest “One Stop Northwood’s Shop.” It is on your way to the lake
house on Upper A just off of Route 77. If you just need a loaf of
bread, some quick bait/tackle, or boat motor gas, they are 7 miles
from the lake house. We’ve never had a problem with their boat
motor gas.
715-462-3984
Pastikas -
In Hayward
off of St. Rd. 27 is our favorite bait and tackle store, although
they specialize in muskie tackle, and we’re a muskie fishing family. If you’re looking for live minnows
(walleye or northern by the dozen) they’ll give you the best bang
for your buck, which means they’ll throw in a few extra and not
count ‘em out one by one. For crappie minnows your best bet is to
buy them by the scoop. Tell Al or the guys the Bohde’s on Lost Land
lake sent you, you’re staying at our place, and we told you they
would take good care of you!

92.3 FM - Mainly for weather reports
Restaurants:
We
don’t eat out much when we’re at the lake, but when we do, we like
the following:
Breakfast -
Spider Lake Cafe located
at across Hwy 77 from Dow Corners where Upper A and Hwy 77
intersect. Owned by the Milwards. Sam cooks and Carolyn waits
tables - go hungry because the portion sizes are big! They are
also starting up suppers, so give them a call.
715-462-4411
Perkins
located at 15629 Railroad Street in Hayward
715-934-4460
Flat Creek Eatery &
Saloon - good for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Attached to
the Hayward Inn & Suites off of Hwy 27S.
715-634-1466
Dinner -
Lost Land Lake Lodge
- located 9436 W. Brandt Rd in Brandt Bay on Lost Land Lake. Eight
miles from the lake house; turn-off is near Happy Hooker Bait a &
Tackle (about a 15 minute drive). Famous for their all-you-can-eat
fish fry; it is good-good!
715-462-3218
Famous Daves BBQ
- located off of County Rd. B at 9971 Grand Pines Lane (Grand Pines
Resort next to Round Lake Marina on Round Lake) 715-462-3352
Chippewa Inn
Supper Club - located at the junction of County Roads A & B,
9702N County Rd B. Great German cuisine, but a bit pricey.
715-462-3648
Groceries:
Marketplace Foods -
located 10514 Main St (end of S. Main St) right behind Pastika’s off
of St. Rd 27. Great baked goods, & full liquor/beer/wine section if
desired to include local vineyard offerings.
715-634-8996
Wal-Mart Supercenter
- located 15594 St.
Hwy 77 One-stop shopping, when saving time and getting to the lake
house is a priority.
715-634-8228
Hookstone Winery
- located at 10588N Main St offering their own varieties - all wines
made on premises to include daily wine tastings.
715-634-9463
Bakery:
Hayward Bakery & Cheese Shop -
located 10565 Main St (heart of Main St). Out of this world breads
and cookies, quality of their coffee cakes have fallen off.
Phone-in orders accepted. They slice their breads to any
thickness if you ask them. Their Rustic bread is particularly
tasty!
715-634-2428
Ice Cream:
West’s Hayward Dairy-
located 15848 W. 2nd St. (right off of the heart of Main
St). Unbelievable homemade ice cream!
715-634-2244
Candy:
Tremblay’s Sweet Shop -
located 221 Main St. (heart of Main St.) Out of this world homemade
fudge and peanut brittle! This turn-of the century style candy
store is one that Willie Wonka would be envious of. It's a
must stop if you like sweets.
